Product Setup for SEO

Here is a quick reference on how to optimize your products for SEO. This should explain it in as little space as possible.

Product: “Enchanting Stargazer”

Keyword Targeting: Stargazer Lilies Arrangement & Austin, TX  *obviously use your own location

Title: Enchanting Stargazer Lilies Arrangement in Austin, TX | Florist Name  *use your location and your brand name

URL: /flowers/enchanting-stargazer-lilies-arrangement-austin-tx  *try to use the actual flower type as much as possible over the name of the arrangement

Meta Description: Florist Name offers beautiful Enchanting Stargazer Lilies Arrangements with same-day delivery in Austin, Texas.   *use your location, your brand name and try to keep the meta description under 150 characters if possible (Google doesn’t index more than 150 characters when representing them in the search results)

The keyword targeting should be more about the types of flowers and if they are an arrangement, basket etc. more than the “name” of the arrangement.

The “Title” should be practically the keyword targeting + geo location + a separation and the brand (the separation could be a “|” or a “-” whatever you prefer)

The URL should be lower-case typeface separating each word with a “-” with an appropriate organizational type such as /flowers/product-name or /plants/product-name and then essentially throw the title tag in there, so if you notice the title tag is almost the exact same as the URL, that’s well optimized for the keywords in question.

The Meta Description should be as close to <150 characters as possible, use branding and your keywords as well as a call to action and geo location. Call to action meaning “Same-day delivery”, “Hand Delivered”, “Delivers Nationwide” etc.

This is how we would have each product set up.

Also we rolled out the functionality to add html links in the product description on our product pages, so if you have relevant blog posts for the products you are creating or optimizing I would recommend using some links to related blog posts within your descriptions. How you can do this would be writing something along the lines of:

If you would like more information on Stargazer Lilies read these posts from our blog: <a href=”http://www.yourdomain.com/blog/5-interesting-facts-about-lilies”>5 interesting facts about lilies</a>, or <a href=”http://www.yourdomain.com/blog/5-care-tips-for-lilies”>5 care tips for lilies</a>

This will help drive more traffic to your blog and studies have shown that customers who read a blog post on a product are 50% more likely to convert on that product.

This is the ideal way to set up these pages, and a more thorough product description is always highly recognized and recommended by Google and the other engines.

I hope this helps, happy selling!
